3 Social Media Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

1. Identify the purpose of each platform

Every social media platform has its specialty. Each of the major ones, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn, all provide a different experience to clients. Therefore, clients expect certain types of posts and interactions on each.

Before sharing any content, take a few minutes to write down your purpose for the platforms you plan on using. An example might be using Facebook to send customers directly to a booking web page. You may use Twitter only to pump out articles and content from thought leaders in your industry. Instagram could be used for a behind-the-scenes look at your company. There are many ways to play to the strengths of the platforms while approaching your marketing with clear goals in mind.

2. Connect with industry leaders

No matter how small of a business you run, you’ll find industry experts and thought leaders on various social platforms. Follow them. Whether or not you grab their attention, having like-minded leaders in your social circles allows your target audience to find you more easily, trust your work, and like your mission.

Don’t be shy here. Social media marketing is, after all, about making real connections. Liking, commenting, and linking back to these industry leaders is welcomed and encouraged as it gives them greater reach while boosting your credibility. Share like there’s no tomorrow and let your online presence be another impeccable client experience.

3. Automate as much as possible

Finding the sweet spot in automated marketing is key to saving time and growing your reach. Don’t abandon organic responses altogether, but do set up your social profiles for success with an automation tool such as HootSuite or Buffer so your team can focus on their core roles instead of sitting on social media.

Whichever tool suits your company best will allow you to plan cohesive content days, weeks, even months in advance while focusing the rest of your time on your products and services. It’s a win-win.
